My Hair Loss History

Last updated on March 5, 2006

I had 1906 FU procedure on October 10, 2003 (strip) I take propecia every day.
11/14/03 - Decided to go ahead and take a few current pics. the "money shot" showing the top of my head with my hair in it's typical style. I will take monthly shots with this view from now on so I can guage my progress. Feel free to guage along with me.
12/04/03 - 8 weeks post op now.....decided to change venue to a room with better lighting so I will see my progress better. I feel some new growth coming in already, which makes me very anxious to actually SEE the new hair. Here I will wait patiently for another few months. SIGH
03/12/04 - 5 months now. things seem to be taking off for me now. looking forward to the next few months of continued growth and thickening.
04/06/04 - It is clear to me that another session is going to be needed. I have fairly poor hair characteristics (fine, sparse donor) so I know I will never get full coverage, but then, I never expected that. I want to get the second HT as soon as I choose a Doc and as soon as he thinks my current HT has fully emerged.
04/11/04 - Well I went ahead and buzzed it all down with a #6 clipper and I think it looks pretty good. First time I have ever buzzed it. It will help to have all of the old and new hairs growing at the same length.
05/12/04 - it is now 7 months post-op and I am scheduled for HT#2 with Dr. Wong on June 7th, 2004.
06/07/04 - had 2416 grafts done by the master Wong. We were hoping for more but my donor area is less than average. Laxity was ok but the doctor was conservative so as to prevent a stretched scar, which could be visible through my thin donor hair.
06/19/04 - day 12. had my staples out after 8 days, all scabs were gone by 9 days. Redness is still there but faint after 12 days.
06/26/04 - day 19. I borrowed a camera and took a few shots. redness is fading in recipient area and donor scar
08/08/04 - 2 months. shocked areas seem to be returning slowly, and I have seen/felt a few new sprouts.
09/07/04 - 3 months after HT#2 and 11 months after HT#1. shocked hair is coming back in and some new sprouts are a poppin. Hair seems to be back to about where it was pre-HT#2.
12/05/04 - I'm at 6 months now from HT#2. Finally letting my hair grow out to see what I can do with it. Still got new sprouts coming in
03/04/05 - Well I'm at 9 months post-op from my second HT, and preparing for HT#3 with Dr. Wolf today. We will focus on the frontal half of my head, and go into the crown if we get enough grafts. Shooting for 1500-2000 grafts. I chose Dr. Wolf for this procedure primarily b/c I want this to be my last strip procedure, and Dr. Wolf uses permanent subcutaneous sutures to close the wound. This is supposed to provide the absolute finest scar possible. With thin donor hair, a fine scar is critical.
03/23/05 - I'm at 19 days post-op and finally today the last remaining scabs came off my donor strip area. I had 2 stubborn scabs that formed below the stitch line. Dr. Bogan from Dr. Wolf's office looked at them yesterday and thought maybe ingrown hairs? They weren't actually on the incision but below it, maybe where a stitch left the skin. Anyway today they are all gone and things are pretty much back to normal. I'm getting some shockloss in the donor area from what I can tell - hopefully that won't get anyworse. So far it seems like 80% of my grafts are still there. That would sure be nice if they all stayed in and kept growing. But alas, chances are they will be leaving me soon.
11/10/05 - 8 months post-op from HT#3. very happy with how things turned out considering my rather poor hair characteristics. I'd probably be damn near bald by now without HT. The only regret I have is the permanent shockloss or scarring that occurred below my donor scar which, with thin hair to boot, is difficult to cover up. I prefer my hair to be much shorter but that is not possible right now. Dr. Wolf is going to help me by putting some FUE into those areas in January to break it up. If I can buzz my back to a #6 and the sides to a #4 by next summer I will be one happy HT guy.
01/20/06 - had 180+/- FUE placed into my scarred areas in the donor area. If they all grow I think the result will be very promising. I am hoping to be able to buzz my back and sides to a #4 without seeing the scars. Probably wont happen until I have another pass at FUE in the scar.
03/05/06 - 12 months post-op from HT#3. There will be some continued thickening over the next 4-6 months, but this pretty much it. I think it looks very good considering what I had to work with. |
